- Sakkara is one section of the great necropolis of Memphis.

The Old Kingdom capital and the kings of the 1st Dynasty as well as that of the 2nd Dynasty are mostly buried there. - It is best known for the Step Pyramid, the oldest known of Egypt's pyramids, this Step Pyramid and its surrounding complex was meant to be as grand as it was unique and revolutionary.
- Many kings as well built their tomb Pyramids there and among the most famous are the kings of the 5th Dynasty, such as Userkaf (pyramid) and Djedkare-Izezi. As well as 6th Dynasty kings such as Pepi I, Merenre and Pepi II.

One of the most important Pyramids there is the Pyramid of King Unas, who decorated his burial chamber with the famous 'Pyramid Texts', spells written to help the king ascend to the heavens and descend again, which reveal the relationship of the king to the gods!!!!! - Sakkara is also famous for its private Old Kingdom tombs, which contain beautiful and revealing scenes.
- The best-known tombs are those of Ti, Kagemni, and famous known as “Two Brothers” tombs!!!!! And Ptahhotep; the most famous is that of Meruruka.
- Among also the most charming things there is 'The Door s of the Cats', so called because hundreds of cat mummies were found there!!!!!
- In 1995 the pyramid of Queen Meryt-it-is was found. She is the wife of King Cheops, builder of the Great Pyramid.

Her newly- found pyramid raises Egypt's total of pyramids with superstructures to 97 Pyramids!!!!!
